Making Drums Talk...
Many people, including a lot of drummers, don't appreciate the musical and artistic possibilities presented by drums. Unfortunately, this is because so many drummers don't play musically. As a result, many people don't realize how important tuning is to the sound of a drum. Anyone can take a head off of a drum and replace it with a new one. To take a drum that sounds hopeless and make it sound like a world class instrument requires an artist. I am a percussionist with a particular gift for tuning drums, and a passion for seeing that every drum I work on sounds the way it was meant to sound--like a dynamic, sensitive musical instrument.
I have played with some of the finest orchestras in the area, including the Grant Park Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, South Bend Symphony, and the Elgin Symphony. I have also studied at the finest musical institutions in the world, with members of the Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera, Boston Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and several other major American orchestras. Recently I have tuned tympani, drumsets, bass drums, and snare drums for several suburban churches and schools. I have also helped several of my own professional colleagues around the country achieve the snare drum sound they were looking for. I have intimate knowledge of what a world-class instrument sounds like, and the experience to make yours sound just the way you want.
In addition to tuning tympani and other drums, I can also repair hardware, cracked cymbals, re-string keyboard percussion instruments, and acquire missing parts.
